The Duma Nokwe Group was established as a transformation initiative — a deliberate response to the historical exclusion of black advocates from the Johannesburg Bar. More than two decades later, that founding purpose still shapes how we operate.

Transformation at the Bar isn’t a box-ticking exercise. It means actively mentoring pupils, supporting members toward silk status and judicial appointment, and ensuring the profession’s leadership reflects the country it serves. Our members are encouraged to teach, to serve in the organised profession, and to make themselves available for the bench — because a transformed judiciary starts with a transformed Bar.

The work isn’t finished. But every briefing, every appointment, and every junior advocate mentored is a step toward a legal profession that fully reflects South Africa’s Constitution.
