Access to justice remains one of the defining challenges of South Africa’s legal landscape. Cost, complexity, and geography all stand between ordinary people and the representation they need — and the advocates’ profession has a role to play in closing that gap.

Since our founding in 2003, the Duma Nokwe Group has held access to justice as a core value alongside transformation. Our members take on public interest matters, support pro bono initiatives, and work alongside civil society organisations to ensure that the Constitution’s promises reach further than those who can afford them.

This isn’t separate from legal excellence — it’s part of it. A profession that only serves those who can pay isn’t fully serving justice at all.
